How to Use Wondershare Recoverit

For a company that offers such a broad range of products, how well does Wondershare Recoverit compare to competitive data recovery products when put through rigorous testing? Let’s take a look.
Installation
Overall, the installation process is straightforward. Once you download the installer from the Wondershare site, it only takes a few clicks to install the application.
The installer is just under 2 MB. The application itself is quite large though, taking up 446 MB of disk space once it's installed (not including the extra 8 MB which is taken up by Wondershare NativePush). The install time is quite slow because it needs to download all the additional files. Once you've installed it once, it will store an offline installation file in the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Wondershare folder.
Once opened following installation, you're taken directly to the source selection screen.
Source selection
The source selection screen will display a list of the partitions on your drives (both internal and external). Under Quick Access, it gives you a few options for scanning particular locations, like Desktop or Recycle Bin. Seeing as this isn't possible due to data fragmentation, it simply scans your entire drive or partition and limits the visible results.
You have the option of scanning specific partitions or entire disks, though the option to scan disks is found on a separate screen.
Scanning process
In the bottom left, while the scan is running, you'll see an indication of how far in the scan is by percentage. It will also tell you how many files it has found so far and how much time has passed.
You have the option to pause the scan at any point, as well as stop it. While the scan is active, you can review the discovered data and preview it as it appears in the list.
Once the scan is finished, a prompt will appear advising how many files were found.
Managing found files
You can choose how you want to display search results: by file location or by file type. Furthermore, you can search for specific files using the search bar at the top right. Results can be filtered by file type, date modified, file size, or whether or not the file was deleted.
The available view modes include List View, Detail View, and Icon view. Double-clicking a file will open a preview. Inside the preview screen, you can go to the next photo without closing it, which is useful for photo recovery.
Unfortunately, the results of your scan are not saved. Therefore, leaving the results screen means you will need to scan the drive again if needed. There is also no recovery chance prediction, so you have no idea what files have the best chance of recovery.
Recovery and post-processing
Recovering your files is very straightforward. After you choose an output location and confirm recovery, Wondershare Recoverit takes care of the rest.
When finished, you'll be met with a small message that advises how many files were recovered and the number of files that couldn't be recovered.

After looking at the scan results, we have mixed opinions on the efficiency of Wondershare Recoverit’s scanners. The quick scan failed to scan our HFS+, APFS, and EXT4 partitions and only saw marginal success with NTFS. The deep scan was worse, having only found some of the data from our exFAT, NTFS, and FAT32 partitions.
The signature scan produced some better results, but not great. Despite its support for a large number of file formats, Wondershare Recoverit isn’t able to recover the majority with the same efficiency. For instance, common file formats like JPG, MOV, WMV, and XLS/XLSX saw great success, but other formats like MP4, ODT, and MXF were a real challenge for the software.
Wondershare Recoverit continues to expand its supported file formats with each update, but even newly supported file types see the same type of mixed success. For example, support for R3D was included with version 12.0.0, but none of our R3D files were recoverable when we put it to the test.

Wondershare Recoverit supports an impressive number of file signatures. But, as we’ve seen, this doesn’t always reflect positively on the software unless it can provide good results across the majority of supported file formats consistently.
Its ability to partially recover files based on the format is good, as well as its ability to scan and recover data from disk images. It does support Bitlocker drives, though it does require user interaction to unlock the volume. It also supports scanning for lost partitions, but not as a standalone scan option.

You won’t have much trouble recovering data from most major devices with Wondershare Recoverit. Internal and external hard drives and solid state drives, USB flash drives, memory cards, and unmountable partitions are all supported. Some level of advanced recovery is also possible for supported vendors from NAS devices that use a RAID configuration, as well as Linux-based devices with remote SSH.
At this time, recovery from iOS devices, Android devices, or local RAID arrays is not possible.

Wondershare Recoverit doesn’t have too many other notable recovery features to offer, but it does include some that are worth mentioning, like the ability to recover data over the network.
Byte-to-byte images can be created from within the application, but this is limited to partitions at the moment. The program also allows you to create a bootable recovery drive in the case that your system drive stops working.
In addition to the above, other minor additions that help contribute to a good recovery experience are fast scan speeds, the option to scan free space only, and the ability to preview and recover files without interrupting the ongoing scan.

The lack of additional features could be attributed to the fact that Wondershare has a lot of other products under its belt. Therefore, Wondershare Recoverit probably doesn’t get as much love as it could be, especially considering a large focus is put on its creative suite.
The software is easy to install and easy to use.
However, some recovered files indicated as pdf, excel, winwords, cannot be opened and some photos can be seen clearly as indicated on the folder, but when opening the file, the photo is distorted only can see partial of the photos.Some files are name incorrectly therefore you have to open nearly all files to confirm that it is the correct files as named.
Sadly, there will be files even though pull out but indicated with funny names and mostly of them cannot be opened.
Overall I am still happy because nearly 70% of the files are retrieved.

Absolutely nothing about this product was helpful. I was impressed with its slick ability to sell me on the product while simultaneously not actually doing anything.

The product itself. The technical support that is non-existent (waited over an hour for a support representative, which would then respond an average of every 3-5 minutes) and refusal to refund a non-functioning product (despite the fact that I am a subscribing customer to several other of their applications).

Wondershare Recoverit is a recovery tool that comes complete with a stunning user interface and excellent ongoing support. It has good device support and comes with a useful video repair feature. Network recovery (from supported vendors) is also a nice touch and a sign that the company is trying to cater to more than just the average consumer.
When we tested it using our real-life recovery challenge, it was sorely lacking in comparison to other recovery solutions on the market. It really struggled to recover the majority of file formats we used, despite its claim to support 1000+ file formats. While it does include some additional features, such as bootable recovery drive creation and byte-to-byte partition backups, it’s nothing to write home about.
That being said, while Wondershare Recoverit isn’t a shining star amongst the rest, it’s far from the worst. It has an attentive team behind it and the cost of a standard license isn’t going to hurt your bank account too much. Test it for yourself with the free 100 MB quota, but don’t go in with glowing expectations.
